Collaboration during the quarantine
The collaboration started already in in July last year during a stay in the alps. I wrote a poem, because I couldn´t sleep. What was new, was a little melody, which wanted to be part of the poem.
After the holidays, I went back to Amsterdam and chose the text and the melody for a long wanted and planned collaboration with Frieda Gustavs. Frieda is not only one of my best friends, but an extremely talented composer. When I first had the opportunity to visit one of her concerts with a girls’ choir, I connected deeply to her music.
She accepted the challenge and started to compose. She wrote the music, made the electronics (which are based on sounds of children playing, horn of the ferry in Amsterdam, a big Paetzold recorder from the Conservatory of Amsterdam), sang and played the ukulele, and put together the recordings. The recording of the piece was mostly a consequence of the covid-19 crisis and our inability to put together a live performance. My part was of course the playing and some singing and talking, and with the editing of video clips into a collage of the piece I wanted to try something new as well as contribute artistically to the beautiful composition she created.
She finished the composition around March 2020 and the video was finished in collaboration later that year.
Consort Ferdinandeum
Renaissance Project at the “Grazer Dom” with Josef M. Doeller
This is an ongoing project. Dates will be soon available on the agenda.
The consort consists of a recorder, a baroque violin, a viola da gamba and a lute and theorbo player. It is the accompaniment of a set of singers (discant, alto, tenor and basso) during masses at the Grazer Dom. The music played is mainly renaissance polyphony.
The pieces played in the previous concerts were parts of the mass “Missa ave Domine Jesu Christe” by C. Monteverdi, the motets “Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen” by J. H. Schein and “In allen meinen Taten” by H. Isaac at the 31.10.2021, and the motets “Puer natus in Bethlehem” by M. Praetorius (small clip of a part down below), “Joseph, lieber Joseph mein” by E. Bodenschatz and “Ave maris stella” by G. Dufay at the 26.12.2021.
